New CNC Machinery Announcement: Haas VF-6/40

PEKO's brand new machine is a HAAS VF-6/40.  Delivered last week, this machine is now completely set-up and running, located inside  our CNC shop.  The HAAS VF-6/40 is a 3-axis machine capable of machining parts up to 4000 lbs.  This HAAS has a small footprint compared to some of the machines throughout our facilities, however it's the perfect size for milling parts we need for manufacturing our OEM customers' Major Mechanical Assemblies.  This 40-taper machine uses a 8100-rpm spindle and has a tool capacity of 24+1.  And of course, a huge work envelope of 64" x 32" x 30".

Sheet Metal Precision

PEKO's newest CNC laser is the AMADA FOL 3015 AJ.  A fiber laser cutting machine–with a 4kW oscillator–is the perfect fit for our extensive precision sheet metal division.  This AMADA is equipped with a 3-Axis linear motor drive system, cuts well over a thousand inches per minute, and can handle material up to 7/8" thick!

The Defense Industry is a highly attractive industry for precision machine shops to target.  The Prime Contractors like Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Textron, General Dynamics and others have a long history of producing mechanical intensive products.  To support the manufacture of tanks, planes, radar systems, drones, ordnance and the entire family of Defense related product, an enormous supply base is required.  This supply base of machine shops all over the country is the backbone of these Prime Contractors.  Gone are the days of large in-house machine shops.  Companies ranging from mom and pop to multi million dollars are able to supply these Prime Contractor demands.

Identifying Key Factors for a Precision Machine Shop is important:

All over the country, there are  pockets of manufacturing still alive and well.  From plastics to metals and everything in between, there is still life in the manufacturing industry.  With some many shops of different sizes, specialties and cultures, it is important to identify key factors that contribute to a great precision machine shop. 

Not all machine shops are created equal. Many buyers and sourcing personnel focus too much on price without considering the big picture.  Quality, Delivery and Cost are all important and to achieve them the makeup of the business matters greatly.
